Marrakech & Sahara Tour Itinerary

Day-by-day plan of this private Sahara tour from Marrakech and back, over 6 days.

Day 1 · Arrival in Marrakech

When you arrive in Marrakech, your driver is waiting to take you to your hotel or riad to rest. In the evening your driver and a local guide take you to Jemaa el Fna square, with its snake charmers and, as the day ends, its crowds, dancers, storytellers telling tales in Berber or Arabic, magicians and sellers of traditional medicines. When it gets dark the square fills with food stalls. After the visit we take you back to your hotel, where you can try tanjia, the Marrakech speciality, for dinner.

Today is a full day with a guide in Marrakech, to discover the history, art and culture of the walled red city. We visit the minaret of the Koutoubia mosque, the symbol of Marrakech, built in the Almohad style and topped with four copper globes that you can see from far away. Then the Ben Youssef medersa, the old Islamic college named after the Almoravid sultan Ali ibn Yusuf, with its carved Moorish decoration. We walk through the alleys and souks of the medina and the craft quarters, including the leather market, then visit the rooms and gardens of the Bahia Palace. The day ends back on Jemaa el Fna, with its musicians, storytellers and food stalls.

Early in the morning we leave Marrakech for the Dades Valley. We cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n’Tichka pass, with wide views, and stop in small villages for tea and lunch. In the afternoon we visit the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a well known film location, where many international films and series were shot, among them Gladiator and Game of Thrones. We pass Ouarzazate, the door of the desert and the Hollywood of Africa, then drive through Skoura, Kelaat M’Gouna and the Berber villages of the valley to the Dades Valley, where we arrive in the evening and spend the night.

We drive from the Dades Gorge to Merzouga by way of the Todra Gorge, one of the most striking places in southern Morocco, and Erfoud. In Merzouga your camel guide is waiting to take you across the dunes of the Sahara for the sunset. After the ride you reach your luxury desert camp, where dinner is cooked over the campfire and served under the stars.

After breakfast in the desert we start the long drive back to Marrakech. We pass Rissani, still the main market town of the region, with a large souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays known for its leather and goatskins, then the Berber villages of Alnif, Agdz and the Draa Valley, with stops to meet local families and drink mint tea. Then we cross the High Atlas again by the Tizi n’Tichka pass, at 2,260 metres, and reach Marrakech in the evening, in time for a shower and a tajine for dinner.

Marrakech, with its souks, hammams and old buildings, has the Sahara and the Atlas Mountains just beyond its walls. At the end of your tour your driver takes you to the airport.

Enjoyable and wonderful tour

We started our holiday in Seville and took the ferry from Tarifa, Spain to Tangier, Morocco. We found out not many private tours starting from Tangier. Luckily we found that Fes Luxury Tour has that service. We received quick response from the manager. She asked our plan and organized a stress free itinerary for us. Even though we spent a long time on the road, the car is comfortable and the driver was driving carefully on the whole 6 days’ journey. We are very happy for the tour and have no hesitation to recommend their services.

4 days Luxury tour from Fes to Marrakesh

The whole experience was excellent, it was stress free and easy. From booking to pick up, tour and hotels were all excellent. Our driver/guide Ayoub was very helpful and accommodating. He was a very thoughtful and careful driver. He explained things, culture and places of interests to us throughout the trip. He also goes out of his way to help us at the end of our tour when getting to the hotel that I booked myself in Marrakesh . We did have a different guide on the second day of the desert doing the 4x4 expereince and he was also excellent. I highly recommend booking with Fes Luxury tour and using their service. Their cars were very comfortable and clean. It makes life so much easier. The hotel choices were also very good. Thank you for making our trip so much more enjoyable and stress free for us. If it hadn't been with Ayoub, I don't think we would had been able to navigate through the mayhem of the Rissini Sunday Market, it was interesting to see a real local market in action from farm cattles to produce to herbs to Toys, clothes , artesanía and daily white goods. What an eye opener.

Morocco highlights

A very enjoyable and hassle-free 10-day private tour covering Asilah, Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fes, Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, and Essaouira. Thank you to Siu Ha @ Fez Luxury Tour for the perfect arrangements! Our driver, Hafid, moved us between cities safely in a clean and comfortable new van whist sharing fascinating history and culture along the drive. The tour also included local guides who showed us around the Medinas in Fes and Marrakech, successfully leading us through the mazes! Without them, we might have been stuck in there forever. 😅 This was a fantastic taster of Morocco. If I return to Morocco in the future, I will definitely use Fez Luxury Tour service again, using Marrakech as a base, and to include an overnight stay in the Sahara Desert!

12-days private tour in Morocco

Thank you to Siu Ha @ Fez Luxury Tour for the perfect arrangements! We thoroughly enjoyed our 12-days private tour in Morocco. Every attraction was unforgettable, especially riding ATVs and camels, and seeing a sky full of stars in the Sahara Desert. Each Riad and hotel had its own unique charm, and the staff were all extremely friendly. A huge shout-out to our driver, Hafid, his driving skills were exceptional. The seats in the van were clean and very comfortable, making the whole trip enjoyable for all of us. Even though the long-distance drives were lengthy, we didn't feel uncomfortable at all. On the road, various unexpected situations arose, but his high level of skill helped us avoid potential accidents, and his safe driving gave us absolute peace of mind. Although our trip to Morocco has come to an end, we are still reminiscing about the wonderful memories. Highly recommended!
