FES TO MIDLLE ATLAS EXCURSION

From there, we’ll continue our journey along the beautiful scenery of the mountains to one of the cleanest cities in the world, Ifrane, nicknamed “Switzerland of Morocco” for its European-styled buildings and the cool, snowy atmosphere. Ifrane contains beautiful gardens and wonderfully decorated buildings. It is rich in minerals as the heavenly oak forests around it are home to many streams and waterfalls. AL-Akhawayn University in Ifrane is one of its most important facilities, being one of Morocco’s leading universities and one of the world’s best, it definitely adds to the glamour of the city.
After having our lunch in Ifrane, we’ll carry on with our Fes to Middle Atlas excursion to our final destination, the former capital of the Amazigh (Berber) communities of the Middle Atlas, the gorgeous city of Azrou, located at 1250 meters above sea level, a thoroughly unhurried and relaxing spot with shaggy mane of woods and high meadows that burst into flowers every spring. The city takes its name Azrou (Great Rock) from the isolated outcrop marking the town’s western boundary.
Its most famous landmark is the big Ennour mosque which is beautifully furnished with local cedar. Next on our trip, we’ll visit the enchanting cedar forests, the biggest of their kind in Morocco and inhabited by big communities of the Barbary Macaque monkeys, their only home in Africa as they only live in Asia. You’ll get to feed and interact with the playful monkeys.
